Let Your Fingers Do The Walking

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE FUCKIN’ DUST: Yeah, I know, no one uses the Yellow Pages anymore. I know, I know. You are connected to the world via internet tubes! Here’s to the future, you vampire matrix steampunk dicks! Don’t know what I’m talking about.
I know this, every now and again I flip through the Yellow Pages at the house. If anything, just to see graphics and logos. Plus, I’ve always loved that logo. So I did a couple quick web searches, and came up with this little link: “Pebble As Metaphor For Directory” over on Brand New. From a couple of years back. Just hearing about it for the first time.
And before I go a slam the new logo, I’d rather just shed a tear for the loss of one of the greats. Sure, the new logo has all the tell tale signs of a contemporary redesign: Bloated concepts, overthinking, shiny edges and lackluster type. Yawn. To be expected. Stuff CEO people like? I don’t know. To be fair, the analysis and execution is beautifully crafted, and hell, which might be spot on for Canadian markets, which I know nothing about. But in my little halfwit, blowhard opinion, just unnecessary. The logo was fine as it is. As it was. Henry Alexander’s classic, shot to shit.
And I understand why they revamped it. It’s a new world. Who uses those old books anymore, right? Hell, who even uses paper, right? I don’t know. Stuff like this always hurts. Out with the old, and in with the new. It’s just hard to watch the classics die off.

AT A LOSS: I can’t remember who sent me this link. Maybe it was Schille? Probably. Anyhoo, it’s our little American interstate system boiled down into a Vigenelli-styled subway map. I dig it.

MY OLDER BROTHER HARRY SENT THIS ONE DOWN: A cool show about Vancouver neon. I plan on seeing this show, soon. Can’t say much more about it. Details, soon, B.C.!
