Jason Isbell

I’ve been a Jason Isbell fan all the way back to the early 2000s with those Drive-By Truckers. The guy is an inspiration. Seeing him clean up, drop all that weight and go out on his own? An incredible reinvention. Pretty impressive stuff.

I’m impressed with his musical craft and the band he’s surrounded himself with, but most importantly his guts to take the political stances he does. All of which I completely agree with. It’s funny as fuck to see the good ol’ boys telling him to “just shut up and entertain us” stuff. Isbell doesn’t back down, and that’s exactly what that sector of music needs—rockers with guts to tell the truth in the face of cowardice, complicity and old ways.
