Cobra Dogs
2008–2014
It’s been a long time since I’ve told the story of Cobra Dogs. In the early years of going out on the road this tale was a real “crowd pleaser.” Let’s see if I can nail it on the first try…
It was somewhere in the mid-’00s when Cory Grove first got Cobra Dogs going. The first Cobra Dogs logo was that classic G.I. Joe “Cobra Commander” logo with a little type attached to it. Cory had his first cart up at Government Camp, selling dogs to the camper kids. He was selling hats, some kid snagged one and got home to his dad who had some connection to Hasbro or some shit.
Next thing Cory knows, he gets a cease & desist letter demanding him to change his logo, or face the wrath of the courts. So Cory comes to me very freaked out, and explains the situation. He’s facing a threat of litigation and I tell him I’ll get to sketching and make him a logo. We’ll change it and get them off our backs. Easy peasy, right? It worked. The big wig bullies left us alone and things took off for Cory and his hot dog trailer. He had summer gigs up in Government Camp, winter gigs in Park City and one-offs at events all over the West.
The main lesson with Cobra Dogs is this: Work for your friends. Some of the greatest work I’ve done was for a buddy, and that’s never about the paycheck. Thank you, Cory Grove. Love ya, buddy.
Cobra Dogs carries on! New owners kicking ass all over the west. HELL YEAH!
“All Beef Boa” with mustard. And a Coke. That’s my go-to order. Done! Forever hungry.
