Jacob Ashley

My almost-brother-in-law.

I met Jacob in 2005, as Leah dragged him out to Portland to start new lives out here. At first, I was a little sketched out by Jacob, with his My Chemical Romance haircut and not-so-distant JNCO memories lingering. They moved into the basement in my house, but I quickly realized how imposing a girlfriend’s big brother could be and eased the fuck up on the guy. They moved out a couple months later, got jobs and dug into Portland together. Then Oliver came in 2010, one of the greatest gifts the family has received! The little guy brought so much joy into our lives, and I applaud Leah and Jacob for the job they’ve done with him since day one.

Jacob is a hard worker and dedicated to my little sister. I appreciate his tenacity, positive outlook and willingness to push himself and learn new things along the way. From drawing to graphic design to pixel art to retro video games to coding and his recent obsession with screen printing, and we’re proudly on board with all of those cool endeavors. The best thing about the guy? He’s always down. He’s got great spirit during holidays and goes out of his way to make them fun for everyone around. Just like my Dad. I get a little grumpy when the workload is heavy, and ol’ Jacobus’ fun-lovin’ ways always bring levity.

All these years later, Jacob’s one of the greatest people in my life. Such a positive force, an incredible dad to Oliver, a devoted partner to Leah and dependable as hell when I need a little help around the shop. Finally got a little brother!
