Mini Mini
MiniMini was over before it ever had a chance to take off!
I got involved with MiniMIni with Matt Jacobsen and Mikey McKennedy of Sizzle Pie in Portland in the fall of 2015, opening its doors in the fall of 2016. The concept was a “modern bodega” that served the lower East Burnside street neighborhood. A clean, safe place to go for quickie snacks, drinks and everyday items like cigs, rubbers, hangover remedies and what have you. Convenience store stuff, but with a crisp edge.
Sadly, there was a fire behind the place with the B-Side bar it was connected to, and that shut the doors while waiting for insurance adjustments and slow-moving repairs. Combine that with the kick-in-the-teeth of the pandemic, and it finally had to close it’s doors in 2020.
I was an investor, and all design/signage we made was built with good spirits and lots of excitement. It was fun to see it come to life, and a real bummer to watch it go away. But so it goes.
In my backyard here, you’ll find a 6’ x 6’ thermoformed MiniMini sign. That’s the one souvenir I got from the project when it bit the dust.
Thank you to Matt and Mikey for me bringing me into the fold, and all associated friends, vendors and employees who brought MiniMini to life!
