Drive-By Truckers
Been listening to these rascals since 2002! Saw them in Portland a year later and they lit the place on fire! I’ve become buds with Patterson Hood here in Portland, through our mutual friend Willy Vlautin. And you can check out all those Jason Isbell posters we’ve made over the years. Some twenty years later, I sure didn’t think I’d work for these guys! Such talents, down to earth and with big cajones to speak truth to power!
Drive-By Truckers - The Unraveling
This is a cool one in a couple of ways. First off, the only part I contributed to was the cover. Patterson Hood reached out to me and wanted me to try some type lockups with a photo of his children at the Oregon Coast. I tried a ton of stuff, and in the end, the band picked the cover image you are seeing below. Clean and mean with a haunting sunset.
Second, I was treading lightly as Patterson’s sister Lilla has been at the helm of the DBT record graphics for years. I reached out and had to get her blessing before I could proceed. She was great and built out a beautiful record kit from the back cover, to the liner notes booklet to the record labels, incorporating Wes’ gnarly buzzards and birds in the greatest way.
Really, I was just pumped to help out in any way I could. I loved this band since 2002, so being able to roll up my sleeves—in any capacity—was a complete honor. Thank you, Patterson and Lilla!

Drive-By Truckers - The New OK
Patterson hit me up again to help with the cover design for their new The New OK record. Upon seeing the art, there really wasn’t all that much for me to do. Another awesome Wes Freed piece to work with and it was my job to get that thing placed nice and big on the cover. I got to call and introduce myself to Wes, who I’ve been a fan of since that first Drive-By Truckers record I saw his art on. Here’s the thing: I’m down to help these guys ANY WAY that I can. Be it archaeological digs or quick reformats, I just like helping out a band I love so much. Thanks, DBT!
