Dinosaur Jr.

I first heard Dinosaur Jr. in high school, right after Bug came out. 1989! That’s some 35 years ago! Any time I get to roll up my sleeves on a project for the band is EASILY the coolest shit we get to do. Still my very favorite band of all time!

Dinosaur Jr.
30th Anniversary Poster,
Bowery Ballroom,
New York City,
December 3-9, 2015

Hands down, the coolest rock thing we’ve made to date. In the fall of 2015 I got a call from Amy Abrams and Brian Schwartz from Denver’s 7SMgmt, who watch over J and Dinosaur Jr. from a management perspective.

There was a string of seven shows at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City coming up to commemorate the band’s 30th anniversary, and this poster would be sold each night.

I flew out and got a shitty hotel room for a couple nights. The show was great, with tons of special guests. The night I went was Bill Janovitz and Thalia Zedek.

After the show Amy took me backstage. Got to talk with J, Murph and probably shouldn’t have told Lou how much I still loved Bakesale. He wasn’t feeling it, and sorry for being such a fan. Got to meet Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth, comedians Todd Barry and Eugene Mirman, and spotted Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine, Bill Janovitz from Buffalo Tom and Jens Jurgensen from Boss Hog. You gotta remember: I grew up on this shit, so it was a thrill to be back there seeing the shit up close.

The biggest thank you to Amy and Brian, as well as J and the band, for allowing me the chance to realize a rock-n-roll/graphic design dream of mine!
