Patagonia
In 2010, Patagonia reached out to me to do a series of t-shirt graphics for their upcoming line. It was such an honor to get the call. I had a Patagonia jacket in high school and saved my money for it. Beat the hell out of that thing.
Plus, Patagonia was known as the gold standard for outdoor outerwear companies, with their high ethical standards and commitment to environmental causes. I was psyched to roll my sleeves up for them.
The “Line Logo” t-shirt took off internally. (See below.) The story goes that the marketing side of Patagonia got their hands on it and started using it on stickers and whatever else. If my memory serves me correct, I remember seeing it on a kayak or some big piece of equipment? Then on car windows? And water bottles? All sorts of stuff. Which was cool, but a bit confusing.
These designs were sold as t-shirt designs with limited usage terms. When that one took off and got away from the apparel side of things, Patagonia came back some years later and ponied up to cover how big it went. That’s honorable, and I’ll always be appreciative of that gesture. Good people at Patagonia!
