Superdrag
It’s weird getting old. And it’s too easy to look at a chunk of years as “having just whipped by.” They didn’t. Just think of all the times you had to brush yer teeth in that time? What, I spent five months of my fifty years brushing my fangs in this diseased slophole of mine? Maybe.
And yet, it’s hard to not look back and focus on shortcomings and failures. One of my “rock failures” is passing on Superdrag. I saw them on MTV, and liked the big songs, but my focus was elsewhere. I was worried about the Mercury Revs, Red House Painters and Jesus Lizards of my mid-twenties. I remember seeing them on Conan. That’s too big for me. And boy, did I mess this one up.
Some 25-ish years later, one George Middlebrookes from Knoxville challenges me: Have you heard the Lees of Memory? Who? And he explains it’s the work of John Davis and friends and how amazing it is, up against the power of Superdrag. And I’m feeling horrible cuz I don’t know precisely what that power is?
So I dive in. ALL THE WAY. And I fall HEAD OVER HEELS for Superdrag, and all the incredible songs I passed up so long ago. The first three songs on “Regretfully Yours” absolutely floors me. Hooked. Forever!
So I get right with them, and Superdrag is in CONSTANT ROTATION on the DDC factory floor. Can’t get enough of the stuff. Forgive me, will ya?

Went down to Knoxville to see Superdrag reform after a ten-year hiatus, with the original line-up. Special thanks to our buddy James Spears for connecting me to Superdrag the way he did. Got to do their poster for the show, meet the band, and see Superdrag! Incredible weekend.
Extra special thanks to George Middlebrookes, Charlie Zaillian for hanging!
And PLATINUM LEVEL thanks to John Davis for letting me completely ravage him!
