Afghan Whigs

I remember seeing the Afghan Whigs at First Avenue in Minneapolis in 1998. What I remember the most? Satin shirts and beautiful women singing backup. Sure, the shit rocked, but there was a slight whiff of danger to the whole thing.

All those songs about one night stands, getting diseases and the dark side of relationships? It was almost like…when you’d look around…the room was filled with couples making bad, bad decisions? Hard to say. That’s what I remember from that night.

This was advanced stuff for a bumbling hayseed like myself, and I took the bus back to MCAD to work on projects, or whatever the fuck pitiful concerns I had at the time.

Fast forward to October 2015 and we were in New Orleans for an AIGA thingie, and met up with Patrick Keeler (Rippin’ graphic designer and incomparable drummer of the Greenhornes, Jack White and Afghan Whigs) at Greg Dulli’s bar in the French Quarter and got to meet the band. That was cool as hell.

These couple graphics were art directed by Patrick Keeler! Thanks, man!
