Rhett Miller

Got to meet Rhett Miller forever again in the mid-’90s seeing the Old 97’s for a string of shows across New York State up to Maine. Just a quick handshake, as kids. Was cool to get to work for the Old 97’s and get to know Rhett a bit! Such a sweet guy,

Rhett interviewed in the backyard shop for his Wheels Off podcast in 2019! Give it a listen here!

Rhett Miller - The Traveler

Rhett was in Portland recording this record at Jackpot Recording Studios. I was so excited to meet him there and get a chance to see the inside of such a mysterious Portland rock fixture.

When I walked in, Rhett was inside a booth singing. Chris Funk let me in, and as a Decemberists fan I was excited to get a handshake. He wasn’t feeling it. Maybe he had a bad day that day? I wish I had a little sea shanty to sing to him, with a splash of accordion? Just to soothe him in the moment. I didn’t and sat there quietly thinking about Elliott Smith and assorted Jicks.

Luckily, Rhett wrapped the song up and came and sat down with me and we shot the shit about his new record. And he was nice as pie. Thanks, Rhett!
