Wyatt Cenac

“Comedy Person” Wyatt Cenac and the deadpan, dry quality to his thing made me a little nervous to talk to him about the logo he needed for his production company. He hit me up in the e-mail realm and we exchanged numbers.

There’s just something about comedians that makes me nervous. Something about my normally buffoonish ways, and how some dumb thing I said or did would become fodder for a bit at some point? Pretty full of myself, right? One time with David Rees while talking pencils, I grilled the guy into oblivion about if he’d work me over later on with the data I was offering up. He finally relented, “Don’t worry, man, I got you!” Ha. Sorry, Dr. Rees.

This certainly wasn’t the case with Wyatt. He was warm and cool with great insight on what he was looking for. He’s so mellow, but is incredibly smart and I had to focus like a laser on those calls! All in all, I had a great time working for him on these projects.

Got to meet him in Brooklyn when I was on John Hodgman’s top-secret show in 2017. He was great and we loaded him up with DDC merch.

I really admire Wyatt’s delivery, wit and way of wiggling into a joke, topic or event. An awesome reminder that you can give some creative side-eye to EVERYTHING. Thank you Mr. Cenac, for precisely this.
