Target Heartwork
Target Heartwork is a project designed to raise money for art supplies within the art room at Target House—this wonderful home-away-from-home for the families of children facing long-term treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Got the call from Ted Halbur in early 2013 and it really touched me. To be in the company of so many talented designers and illustrators, and, the chance to make something fun that could help kids out? Powerful stuff. Invisible Creature, Jolby & Friends, Tad Carpenter and Always With Honor, works were among the incredible submissions.
I called my piece the “Thick Lines Valley of Love.” You can see all the submissions for the year 2013 here.
And this one time in Arkansas, I’m working my merch table at the awesome Made By Few conference and this kid comes up and says, “Dude, check this out…” he whips around, grabbing the bottom of his jeans, pulling it up to show me his tattooed calf. It took me a second for it to register, and there it was…my Target Heartwork poster design inked for the ages. Surreal!
