DDC Fall Tour 2008 / Day 18 / Traverse City, Mich.

Dad went into surgery yesterday afternoon, they sewed up that devil's ditch of a wound and they booked him one last night in the hospital, healing up under the watchful eye of an caring nursing staff and one mean one.I'm here with him tonight, going late. Mom is back home catching up on all things "Draplin Compound." He's sawing logs. I'm figuring out the hornet's nest that is my November. Holy hell.Gotta get back to Portland. I've got a a quintruple header coming up back in Portland: An issue of the magazine, a media kit, Coal catalog, Coal Considered catalog and a Union catalog. Gonna be one hell of a November. No lie.Plus, I miss Leigh something fierce.- - - -BEAUTIFUL, HAUNTING IMAGES THAT ARE "REQUIRED VIEWING": David Schalliol's "Isolated Building Studies: Revealing Meaning Through Recontextualization" photo exhibiton. Great, great images. Hell of a title, too. These are exactly the sort of images from my travels that have haunted me for years. I've got lots of apparitions in my head from excursions in Detroit, Gary and Chicago. I just get to thinking about all the other houses that were torn down on the block, and the families that were displaced, and the memories, and the ghosts. Unsettling stuff. (This one was sent in by Andrew and Jess. Thanks, fellas.)- - - -FINALLY, TV GETS COOL: The Lips take a crack at the NBC's signature three note jingle. Don't let the B-52s or whoever else is taking on the jingle fool you: The Lips are the coolest of the bunch.- - - -MORE WAYNE, AND, 1000 FLAMING SKELETONS, OF COURSE: "Ghouls Gone Wild," in Oklahoma a couple nights back. Pure awesome. I mean, come on, so cool.- - - -ANOTHER COOL PROJECT FROM CINCO: "The Inside Light." Bravo. Cool idea with that Cinco touch of, "Beautifully done." Portland pride!
