Ft. Lauderdale-ing

SOMETIMES, FLORIDA BITES BACK: And this morning, we got up early and got on the road out of Key West, taking our time back along that Highway 1 across islands and ocean. Such an incredible stretch fo road. We got all the way up to the mainland, and the traffic started. Scared of the Miami tollroad (more “confused”) we opted to take Highway 1 all the way into Miami. Bad choice. Bumper-to-bumper bullshit for way too many miles. We stopped off at the Coral Castle for a reprieve, but I was so frazzled, I couldn’t really enjoy the place. So we kept racing for the city, with a quick interview with our buddy Diego and Juan’s Miami Sessions project. (Coming soon!) We made our way to their neighborhood, did the interview, shook some hands and split up towards Ft. Lauderdale. More traffic. More bumpers. More convertibles with leathery-faced yahoos stopping and speeding up and stopping and speeding up. Yawn. By the time we had got up to Ft. Lauderdale, shit was dark and we were spent. We found a place that served “chips-n-guac” and tried to decompress. Our flight was so early the next morning, Leigh and I decided to just do a late-night lurk, cruise the streets, and then turn the rental car in around 4am. Big fun. We tried to kill some time with Monuments Men, and man, what a hunk of shit that little flick was. Just embarrassing. Such a cool story, and done SO poorly? Bummer.

We drove around town all night, avoiding collision or battle. Went and checked out many a lagoon and water channel. Those big mansions? Weird. Big boats? Even weirder. Who gets that shit? Huh?
