HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD: My dad’s laid up right now. He had a weird infection in his foot, tender to the touch, hard to walk on, all within a day. This was a month ago or so. He’s been on a rigorous antibiotics transfusion cycle for the last couple weeks at a rehab facility in Traverse City, Michigan. “This is what I hafta do, kid,” said the old man from his room via phone yesterday, “I’ve only got eight more days of this stuff.” A team of nurses have been flushing out his plumbing, cycling good clean antibiotics in and out of that club foot of his. He’s on the mend, and today, the old man turns 69. So happy birthday to my dad, all the way back home in Northern Michigan. You are almost out of the woods, buddy. Love ya. If there was ever a day to leave a comment on the this site, today’s the day. Mom will be sharing all well-wishing with dad later tonight. Tell the old guy something good! There Are 43 Comments
I’ve never met the man, but I’ll definitely wish him a happy 69th! Frankly, I can’t wait for the “Golden Years”, I feel like I was born to be old. Posted by: Lloyd on 02/01/12 at 11:04 AM
Happy birthday, Mr. Draplin, you wise, hard-nosed Midwestern hero. We should all aspire to your standard. And your beard. Hang in there, friend. Posted by: Joseph on 02/01/12 at 11:08 AM

Happy birthday, D-Pop. It’s because of Stalwart Manhoods such as yourself that hordes of pagan women strip down to their skivvies and dance around on this 1st of February, Imbolc, in eager anticipation of springtime and all the various “let’s get naked and busy” festivals that come with warmer weather. Jim, You are one of my favorite people. It’s true. I’ve been laughing at all (almost) of your jokes since 2007 :) Can you get me that thing over near the henway? Yeah, Love you! -Leigh Posted by: Leigh McKolay on 02/01/12 at 11:50 AM
We’ve really just exchanged howdies a couple of times, but that’s really all it takes a solid upper-Midwesterner to get the job done. An aside…you’re staring at me in the studio every day with a SHITCHYAH! that keeps production moving along when laziness starts creeping in. Keeping the work ethic in line. Thanks for that. Congrats on putting another birthday up on the big board! My regards to the best beard in Michigan. Posted by: J. Duerr on 02/01/12 at 11:50 AM
