HEADED DOWN TO SAN DIEGO THIS MORNING: Beach towel? Check. Water wings? Check. Zinka? Check. Heading down to San Diego this morning for the Spark Y-16 Conference, where on Friday morning, at PRECISELY 9:10 in the AM, I will be delivering PRECISELY 36.5 minutes of material related to ORIGIN, PROOF, BUSINESS PRACTICE, GUTS, and WHATEVER ELSE I CAN PACK IN. We’re taking this very seriously. Hell, we’re the first one going, which has got our nerves a little buzzing. We’re coming for you, San Diego. Buy a poster from the Spark company store, dammit.

Water wings. Yeesh. More or less, anything to do with “the beach” just makes me want to die. So, this will be an interesting couple days. One time, I did a little drinking at a Grenade premier and woke up, and the “smell of the beach,” combined with Bridges sleeping a foot away, and hell, the sound of Evan’s voice alone, pushed me over the edge and I let the chunks fly. True story. Tears and everything.

The whole time I’m down there I am going to be jamming Rocket From The Crypt, Obits, Drive Like Jehu, old Three Mile Pilot, Night Marchers, Black Heart Procession, Tanner, Hemlock, The Soft Pack and Clickatat Ikatowi. Yeah, Clickatat Ikatowi. Look it up, you scrubs.

The smell of Bridge’s has made many good men blow chunks. That and a few women too.

I can’t wait. I’ll be there all bright eyed and caffeinated.

As someone who hates living under the flight path… I love that old graphic. Thanks for the the laugh.

That Clickatat Ikatowi record kills. How about some VSS, too??

Ha…the bass player from Clikitat Ikatowi worked at my favorite old music store in Encinitas, Moonlight Music. Great store for finding cool stuff if you are up the beach way.

Hi Aaron, just wanted to thank you for coming to the Y16 conference yesterday and giving the opening. You made me inspired all over again to be a designer, and realize how lucky I am to be able to do what I do. I really enjoyed seeing all the samples of your work, hearing your tall tale (truly epic) and your list of things you both love and hate (Marky Mark was a reach though). But again thank you for lighting the spark for this designer (and I’m certain many others).

thanks for turning a blind eye to hate #12 as well as #2 by getting into a “big-ass jet plane” and visiting san diego. i loved your talk. hearing your story, more specifically, hearing you tell your story was the best kickoff to a conference i can remember. hope your time in sd this trip helped to knock southern california down a little further from the top of the hate list and i hope your music list also included some fishwife & no knife.

i look forward to running into you another time!

You rocked it. We loved you. Wish I could have mustered up the courage to introduce myself, but hey, at least I can still compliment you while hiding behind my computer. I am an artist, after all.

PS I saw Flaming Lips with Beck at the Long Beach Arena. Best show of my life. Hope to see you speak and inspire again!

Hey Aaron,
I’m finally taking the time to thank you for being the total highlight for me at this years Y conference. Your attitude is the most refreshing mix of any person I’ve ever met in this industry. As one tattooed and slightly rough around the edges designer in a sea of shiny happy people, it can get to the point of wondering if anyone still has that rock ‘n roll attitude left in the industry (and knows the epic cultural value and appreciation of John Hughes films, thank you for sharing that bitchen story!). Among all the wannabes, you are the real cool deal. I dig your politics, your stories, and your candor. Having a little one on one time to talk shop, only interrupted by one long winded snowboarding story dude, was bitchen! All the best to you Aaron!
