WHERE DO THESE THINGS GO?: You know the deal: You make a bunch of stuff, it gets passed over, you make more stuff, a couple things get nods, you work those into a couple more things, and maybe, if you are lucky, out pops the solution. I’m talking about logos, people. Or hell, anything for that matter when you are making things in the graphic arts. Going through some old files this morning, I came across the little crab up above. A little something we made for a logo gig some years back, that never quite saw the light of day. And of course, to no fault of the people picking the stuff. It wasn’t the right fit for them. Keep pushing, keep making, keep exploring, and something will stick. And man, going through that file I said, “Holy shit, look at that little crab.” So I brought the little crustacean back to life, and cemented him into the site for the ages. I didn’t want him locked inside some Illustrator file, buried in archives. It’s funny how we make all this stuff, and so much of it dies. Sad, sorta. So that might be a new thing to explore on here: Rescuing old ghosts, and giving them new life. - - - - LIFE UPDATE: It’s Saturday and on the way down to the shop I stopped by an estate sale to see a healthy line wrapped down and out the front door, out on to the sidewalk and around the corner. No thanks. It hurt to pass it up. I’ll hit it later on when anything of value is long gone, and it’s all “dead shit” and “stuff headed to the trash heap.” My kind of pleasure. More and more, I just want to junk. - - - - ON THE PLAYER: 01. Yo La Tengo - Electr-O-Pura There Are 2 Comments
I am in the process of redoing my site and was recently going through all of my old work as well. I found some great stuff that just ended up going nowhere. I am going to start a file with all these outcasts so I can bring them back to life in new projects in the future. BTW the crab actually looks like a mean old man with a huge nose and mustache. It can not be unseen. Posted by: Chris on 03/14/11 at 3:26 PM
