THE BEST THING WE’VE SEEN ALL MONTH: A tour of Weldon’s Saddle Shop by grandson Clint Wilkinson. Get in there and get dirty.

Just cuz I don’t want to mess with it, here’s what Clint had to say, “Weldon’s Saddle Shop and Western Wear has been in business since 1957. Mt Grandpa is an old saddle maker and collections of western antiques. Most of his collection includes spurs, but he also collects old Texas Centennial Memorabilia, old western movie star stuff, etc. Needless to say I’m learning how to tool leather and run the business, he won’t be around forever and I’m trying to be a sponge right now. He brought me in from the Texas Oilfields and I’m forever grateful.”

I don’t even know where to start on this one. Aside from the wealth of packaging graphics, this one is just so good on so many levels. I’ll bet Mr. Weldon is just tougher than hell, too.

Clint, you made our day. Bravo, man!

So the next time you are passing through Denton, and need yer saddle repaired, you know where to go. Incredible.

ALL THE WAY FROM SWEDEN: We watched Ben Hur on Easter, and I have to say, the part where he’s in the desert and meets Jesus is pretty moving, as is when he meets him again when Jesus is on his way up the steps to his crucifixion. I mean, as campy as that film was, those scenes are pretty intense from a historical point of view. Never the less, here’s a Jesus made out of Legos, over in Sweden. (My older brother Harry sent this one in. He lives out there doing the good work of science.)

ONE MORE YOW MENTION: Here’s the audiocast of the Talk last week. You can hear the ever eloquent Jason Resch open up the deal, and then you can hear me fumble through a little introduction of Paul Anthony and Mr. Yow. Now remember, that’s David Yow up there telling you things you may never hear again, so, there you go.

And, when I said, “Silverfish” I meant “Silverchair” or whatever forgettable band that was from awhile back. It’s weird being in front of hundred people you don’t know. Thanks again to everyone involved, and Mr. Yow for being Mr. Yow.

THIS ONE’S FOR JIM FELT: Portland’s very own Jim Golden has a gig up in Seattle next week, and in his research he came across this emerald of a link: Erecting The Space Needle.

Love the introduction to Yow: Good God, son, who taught you to talk that way??? Your Grandma Leo would be so proud.

I will honor record store day by visiting a new record store in downtown TC in your honor (and my own personal pleasure).
