Happy Birthday Dad: 64
Posted at 07:53 AM

dad_birthday_64.jpg

Dad, you grisly bastard, Happy Birthday from all of us out here on the West Coast.

Sixty-four: My dad. Our dad. Yer dad. The dad.

Here’s how we’re celebrating this ordeal: I “got online” today and purchased the old man an airline ticket. I’m flying him to Portland on the 8th. We’re gonna kick the town’s ass for a long weekend, then we’re gonna push off and brave the wilds all the way back to Michigan. Road Trip. Dad, Gary and I. Western vistas. Two bit hotels. Questionable meals. Fights. Tears. Jokes. Laughter. Charlie horses. Rivers jumped. Hearts broken. Waste laid. Pigs outran.

It’ll be nice to be out there with my dad, enjoying the land and open spaces.

And, dear readers, dad’ll be reading this post, so, be sure to leave the old man some birthday wishes in our comments section. Do it. He needs yer good words for strength.

Big Jim-

Here’s a Hearty Happy Birthday from the Campbells. We missed you and Lauren at the Tandem Design ‘Mittens & Merriment’ Holiday Open House. And damnit, the next time you plan on playing Santa downtown, have Lauren give Megan and I a shout so we can bring Hannah down to whisper in yer ear.

Keep well and safe trevails across the US of A with that son of yours!

Mr. Draplin,
You don’t look a day over…well…shave the beard and you could be your son’s twin brother. Happy birthday.

Jim,
When you first came into the Steele family way
back in 1968, I thought you looked like a hippie.
But compared to how you look NOW, You were a pretty straight arrow back then. Looking at your picture Aaron posted, I think of the Crosby, Stills & Nash song “Almost Cut My Hair” . Happy 64th you handsome devil!……….Pat

Mr Draplin, my wife and I are happy to have met and fraternized with your good son. We can only hope to meet you when you visit Portland. Personally, I hope to be such a good looking, bearded dude when I arrive at 64 years of age. That would be 46 years without shaving a whole lot. Looking forward…
