The Flaming Lips get their own street named after them. Pretty awesome, and, pretty weird. Click the video box for it to play. And here’s a shot of it, in the “not so nice” part of Oklahoma City. - - - - Some great work here from the Windy City: Arlo. Especially the logo examples. Nice. - - - - The new Canon G7. Nice. Way into the cleaner, angular matte black thing. Tired of the “melted silver” shit that is so prevalent in product design these days. No thanks. - - - - Listening to some news today, I overheard the “we’re spending Two Billion a week” on the “war” in Iraq snippet dropped a couple times. Fucking heartbreaking. Imagine what we could do with the Two Billion spent last week, say, focused on cancer research, and, the Two Billion spent on the week before, put towards poverty, or education, or health care or whatever suffering that isn’t being addressed like it should be. Man, the numbers are staggering, and, the price we’ll pay for this farce outweighs our real problems back home so much. Bring the kids home, and give Iraq a couple month’s worth of Billions to rebuild their country, and, let’s focus on home, over here. Mind-boggling. Something we thought about today. Most people sadly do not grasp how much money we are really spending on this “war” in Iraq. The debt this country is going into to finance Bush’s Middle East Adventureā„¢ is going to come back and bite us in the ass. When Bush leaves ofice in January 2009 and the Democratic president elected to replace him inherits this mess, Bush and his network of cronies who have methodically bankrupted our children’s futures will escape with their many millions of dollars squirreled away from the nepotistic defense contracts — all in the name of fighting “terror.” Wake up America, and start holding your elected politicans accountable for their mistakes. Do not let Bush and his legions of USA-rapists get away with it! Posted by: Cameron Barrett on 12/07/06 at 8:30 PM
This is way less heavy, but I just wanted to point out that Bricktown actually IS supposed to be the ‘nice’ part of town - urban renewal, fancy bars and restaurants, etc. However I was just there a couple weeks ago, and the only thing open for lunch was Hooters and the Army recruitment center. Poor stupid Oklahoma, I love you anyway. Posted by: DB on 12/08/06 at 12:33 AM
That photo is absolutely incorrect. Someone posted it on another site as a joke; get your facts straight. Flaming Lips Alley bisects the hottest real estate in Oklahoma City. It is ground zero for a 2 billion dollar reanaissance in downtown OKC over the past 15 years. The alley actually acts as frontage for some of the most valuable property in Bricktown, the fastest-growning entertainment district in the southwest. And if Cameron couldn’t find anyplace open for lunch he must have been there on a Sunday at about 10:30 AM, because there are DOZENS of places open for lunch every day. In fact lunch is probably Bricktown’s biggest business, although the bar and nighclub scene there is the most vibrant in the metro. Posted by: Chad on 12/17/06 at 9:33 AM
Chad’s right, that alley is an access point for several clubs and will soon have an entrance to the Bricktown Ballpark, one of the top 3 AAA stadiums in the country. And Bricktown is packed with tons of restaurants that are usually open all the time, while they may be low-staffed during slow business days and hours since the district has more business on evenings, weekends, and special event days/months. I wish someone would find a real picture of the Alley. I guess I’ll have to take one. For now, maybe an actual picture of Bricktown? See the Ballpark in the distance? The Alley is just to the left of that. Posted by: Shane on 01/04/07 at 4:19 PM
