Caught some supper at Hodda’s on Belmont tonight with Fred Green. I had the chicked kabab over a bed of rice with garlic sauce. Hubba hubba. Then we cruised by the Laurelhurst Theater and saw “The Life Aquatic” was due to start in a couple minutes. We parked and were in our seats in no time. Three bucks admission. - - - - Well, we were expecting a lot. Of course, the wit, the type, the overall visual radness won us over, but, man, it was hard to stay “into it.” Visually, I “couldn’t get enough.” I loved the desaturated blues and yellows and little hits of red. Perfect. The sets were amazing. I have to watch it again just to savor all the little details on the walls of the ship and clothing logos and stuff. Always so well done in Wes Anderson ficks. But man, I couldn’t wait for the thing to be done. Tired eyes, tired eyes. Visually stunning. Funny moments. Boring as shit, kind of. - - - - The weekend was good. Quality time with the little lady. Business with Brad from Coal. Laundry with DDC Travel Fallout Dept. Projects with trusting, eager clients. Sunday night guffaws with Fred. Bring on the Monday, you hosers. There Are 4 Comments
They should have used AQUALUNG by Jethro Tull in the soundtrack. Posted by: Rose on 03/14/05 at 9:46 AM
I’m not sure how Napoleon Dynamite can not bore you but the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou could. Posted by: Kurt Halsey on 03/14/05 at 11:03 AM
I found your site searching for Carhartt related merchandise. Specifically, cold weather suits. I do a lot of concrete work, even in the winter, and was on a quest. Your designs are great, your opinion on the Life Aquatic is spot on (and I loved Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, and TRT), and your lambasting of Carhartt was deserved. I do some design work myself and have always gravitated towards a minimalistic/industrial approach. Your site is bookmarked because your designs inspire. Cheers! I mean, it’s no match for “Beautiful Girls” or anything, but I thought it was pretty good. It even had explosions - how’d that grab ya? -Tough going almost 2 hours without a minute of sleep, I know. I’ve seen you in action… Ha. Rest up. I need full intellectual and physical alertness present when I come to destroy Portland. Posted by: Ryno on 03/15/05 at 5:56 PM
